Given this change, no penalties will be imposed for work permits expiring between 23 August 2024, and 9 September 2024.

We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the new online permit system and appreciate your understanding as we work towards delivering an efficient permit processing and delivery platform.

This system has been designed to improve the efficiency and convenience of processing Work Permits, Investor Permits and Appeals.

Key Features:

  • Faster Processing Times: Streamlined workflows will reduce the time required for processing work permit applications.
  • Convenient Online Applications: All work permit applications can now be submitted online, eliminating the need for physical visits to the Department of Immigration.
  • Real-Time Tracking: Applicants can monitor the status of their applications at every stage, ensuring full transparency.
  • Secure Payments: Payments can be made online with immediate confirmation and receipt issuance.

The Department of Immigration will stop accepting application for Work Permits, Investor Permits and Appeals from Friday 23rd of August totransition to the new system. All paper applications currently being processed will be processed within the next month.

If an applicant’s current permit expires between the 23rd of August and the 2nd of September 2024 and he/she has not yet lodged a renewal application, the applicant will not be penalised.

The Department recognises that transitioning to a new system may require adjustments therefore, comprehensive support will be provided. The Department’s website will feature guides, and FAQs to assist users in familiarising themselves with new system.

CASHLESS TRANSACTION

The Fiji Immigration Department (“Department”) wishes to advise members of the public that from Monday 29 January 2024, the Department will no longer accept payments made with cash or cheques.

EFTPOS and M-Paisa are the only acceptable methods of payment at all Immigration offices.

This is in line with the Government initiative for a cashless system to ensure effective and efficient management of public funds as well as to promote transparency and accountability.

The Department, in an effort to streamline processes will implement the following changes with effect from 15/01/2024.

FEES

  1. All fees will be paid at the lodgment stage.
  2. This includes: Application and Issue Fees.
  3. All fees MUST be paid immediately after lodgment.
  4. Terms and condition must be completed, signed and uploaded at the time of lodgement.

SHORTFALL PAYMENT

  1. Any shortfall payment of fees will result in cancellation of application.
  2. Application and issue fees, not paid in full are not refundable.
  3. All fees must be paid in full.

INCOMPLETE APPLICATION

Applications with incomplete documents will be cancelled.

Business on Visitor Permit

Permit for non-citizen who wish to work, conduct business, investment or consultancy. 

Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and United States of America Nationals
Nationals of Other Countries
  1. Issued on Arrival – Business Visitors Permit issued on arrival for 21 days, (does not require prior approval).
  2. Allowed Activities – A Business Visitors permit allows foreign nationals to undertake business, study, research, consultancy, or work-related activities in Fiji for 21 days
  3. After 21 days – Working beyond the 21 days without a permit, may result in removal and denied future entry to Fiji.
14 days Visitor/ Business Provision
  1. The visitor/ business provision in Section 9 (3) of the Immigration Act 2003 allows non-citizen from any visa exempted countries to work, study or conduct any business-related activities.
  2. Non-citizen to declare intent or purpose of visit, at the border upon arrival.
  3. The provision is limit to 14 days only, cannot extend or permitted to apply for extension.
  4. Work permits to be applied for work beyond 14 days.

On 14 July 2023, the Immigration Act 2003 was amended by an act of Parliament to allow a person who is registered in the Vola Ni Kawa Bula (VKB) and a non–Fiji Citizen to enter, reside and work in Fiji without obtaining a permit. As announced on 13/10/2023 by the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Hon. Pio Tikoduadua, persons registered in the VKB and holding foreign citizenship are now eligible to apply for Exemption under section 8(1)(g) of the Immigration Act 2003. 

Direct Descendants of a person who was considered a Citizen of Fiji on 10/10/1970 will also be eligible to apply for Exemption. This exemption will allow a non-Fiji citizen considered to be a direct descendent to enter, reside and work in Fiji without obtaining a permit.
